Piano and I
Nicole Walker
First Place, Poetry

Your notes float softly above the houses
As I succumb to your pleasures
My pen scribbles softly like wind on silken blouses
Where I create your measures
The nerves in my fingers are on fire as I play your keys
Now I know how Rachmaninoff and Mozart felt
As I am swept away by your melodies
And my insecurities melt
Fervent lyrics express
My inexpressible ecstasy
As my music slices the darkness
With a beautiful harmony
My tortured psyche shall fly
When it is only the piano and I
