Not Always Does Love Work
Michael Eason
Third Place, Poetry
Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
Not always does love work
Two rarely, if ever, fulfill the merger proper
If perhaps you feel slightly the weight of forever, endure it
Because surely that is better than to wait, forever
Not always does love work
So for what you have, be grateful
And as for the rage, the bitterness, perhaps even emptiness
Some would consider these fortunes, indeed even blessings
Viewing such pains fortuitously, luckier by far than feelings of the void
The void of nothing, that waits inevitably, forever, for all
Not always does love work
Thus when it does, do not dare to delay
Tardiness will only derail the passion, till it crashes
Love may blossom but for a moment
So be prepared to embrace its thriving bloom
Or forever pay the price, while withering, for naught.
