Women's Soccer

Picture

Soccer excites fans across the world, and soccer mania came to the ABAC campus in 2006 when the college initiated its first women’s soccer program.

Coach Jimmy Ballenger’s Fillies compete in the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association.  In terms of the number
of teams, soccer is the most popular women’s sport
in the GJCAA.

ABAC added a new dimension to its 421-acre campus in 2007 with the addition of a women’s intercollegiate soccer field.  The Fillies have a built in fan base since the field is located next to the ultra modern ABAC Place Apartments Complex.

For more information on the program, contact Coach Ballenger at (229) 391-4939 or jballenger@abac.edu.

2008-2009 ABAC FILLIES

Tifton-  The ABAC Soccer Fillies have qualified for the GJCAA playoffs as the # 3 seed.  Coach Ballenger and the Fillies will travel to Cleveland, GA on October 28th to face off against Truett-McConnell College.   The winner will advance to the second round of post season play which will be held in Albany, GA on October 31.    The Fillies are 13-5 on the season.  One of those win came against Truett-McConnell earlier in the year when ABAC won 1-0.  According to Coach Ballenger, there are several leaders on his team this year.  “Rachel West from Tifton is our anchor on defense while Katrina Duncan-Marshalleck from England leads the team in goals with 25”.  Coach Ballenger adds, “Our midfielders also play a great part in our success this year”.   Sanjeet Jaspal, Joanne Ryan, Meghan Metrick, Ronnie Smith, and Jahyna Pope have all contributed to our great midfield play.    Megan Morgan and Zucy Zamora have limited opponents to only 28 goals against ABAC while the offense has scored 82 goals on the year.  In only the third year of existence, Ballenger has had great success in Region XVII.   The Fillies have never had a losing season, while making the playoffs two out of the first three years.  Ballenger says, “The keys to building a successful program is hard work and dedication”.    Coach Ballenger also believes community involvement, fundraising, & recruiting are critical to a teams overall success.
