One of the most popular sports in the world
comes to the Abraham Baldwin College campus in August of 2006 when ABAC
introduces a women’s soccer program. Jimmy Ballenger will coach
the team, which will compete in the Georgia Junior College Athletic
Association. In terms of the number
of teams, soccer is the most popular
women’s sport among two-year colleges in the state.
Ballenger joins the ABAC
faculty in the Division of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation this
year. He will spend the year teaching classes and recruiting for the Golden
Fillies’ first team ever on the soccer field.
Plans are already in the
works for a soccer field to be constructed at the site of the existing ABAC
intramural field next to the women’s softball field and the tennis courts.
