Donna Campbell enters her ninth season at Abraham Baldwin College and her nineteenth year in the coaching profession.  Before coming to ABAC, Campbell coached nine years on the high school level and has compiled a career record of 455 wins and 217 losses.  In nineteen years of coaching, Campbell’s teams have won 7 State titles and 3 State Runner Up titles, and five national tournament appearances .

 

Seven years ago, in her first year as a collegiate coach, her ABAC team went 44-12 and won the 1996 National Junior College Slowpitch Championship.  She was named NJCAA Slowpitch Coach of the Year.  In 7 years of coaching fastpitch at ABAC, she has guided to five GJCAA State titles, two GJCAA State Runner Up finishes, one District C championship, and four top 16 NJCAA finishes competing in four National Tournaments. 

 

Since starting the fastpitch program, Campbell’s teams have captured the GJCAA State titles five times. (97,98,00,01, and 02).  In 2003, her team compiled 29 wins and finished 2nd in the GJCAA.  Her team went 19-5 against the Georgia opponents. Campbell has been named GJCAA Fastpitch Coach of the Year five times; 97, 98, 00, 01, 02.  Campbell’s teams have a combined record of 101-15 against the opposing Georgia Junior colleges.

As a former player for Sunbelt/ Blaze, Campbell was inducted into the Georgia USSSA Softball Hall of Fame in 1997 and has been named to All-American teams at past National Tournaments.  Campbell has retired as an active player following the 2000 Summer season.

 

Over her coaching career, Campbell has maintained the philosophy that hard work, commitment, and dedication produces positive results, but if it’s not fun it’s not worth it.

 

Campbell has earned an A.A. degree from Middle Georgia College, a B.S. and Masters Degree in Health and Physical Education, both from Georgia College and State University.  In addition to her position as Head Softball Coach, Campbell is an Assistant Professor of Health Education at Abraham Baldwin.

Kristin Hughes

Kristin Hughes returns to ABAC for her first year on the coaching staff after graduating in December of 2003 from Georgia College & State 
University with a degree in Business Administration. Hughes is coming off a brilliant collegiate career at ABAC and later, GC&SU.
 
Hughes played for the Fillies under Coach Campbell in 2000 and 2001, earning Third Team All-American honors as a sophomore. She was a 
two-time All-Conference selection and was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2001 Junior College State Tournament.
 
The success continued at GC&SU where she was a two-time All-Peach Belt Conference selection at third base, and earned Third Team All-American 
honors as a senior. Hughes set the school single season (11) and career record (18) for home runs, and also set the school career record with 
86 RBI. She also helped the Lady Bobcats to the greatest season in school history in 2003 after finishing as the NCAA Division II National 
Runner-Up in the team's first ever trip to the national tournament.
 
Hughes graduated from Dacula High School where she earned All-County honors in softball, basketball and track. She also earned the Golden Glove 
Award.

 

Campbell on Kristin:  “I am so excited about having Kristin coming back to ABAC and help me with the coaching duties.  She was a model student athlete for me when she played and she will be a great role model for our young Fillies.  Kristin has a great knowledge of the fastpitch game and I expect new and exciting ideas from her in helping our team develop.”
