Stallion basketball has soared to new heights in 2007, and there may
be more to come. Coach Todd Sheppard’s team is currently ranked #12
in the nationwide poll and has been ranked as high as #9. With an
80-70 victory over arch rival Middle Georgia in Cochran last week,
the Stallions now have a glittering record of 26-4. That represents
the most wins in ABAC basketball history. Sheppard, in his fourth
year as the ABAC coach, emphasizes that the success is built upon a
total team concept. “I think every coach at the start of the year
has winning a national championship as his ultimate goal,” Sheppard
said. “To do that, you have to go in steps and the first step is
winning your league title. To do that, we are going to have to play
together as a team like we have done all year.” As the #2 seed in
the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association tournament, the
Stallions automatically advance to a 5:30 p.m. semifinal on March 2
in the gym of the top-seeded Jaguars of Georgia Perimeter. The
winner of the tournament advances to the national tournament in
Hutchinson, Kansas. |
