ABAC Golf Team Wins Region Title

ABAC golfers battled wind, rain and Andrew College for the right to be called Region Champions. ABAC posted a total score 930 over the three days beating Andrew College by more than 30 strokes. Top scorers for ABAC included Jared Davis 73, 75, 77 and Billy Edwards 75, 77, 78. Davis Edwards was also a strong contributor all three days. Captain Terry English and Marshall Matulia also made strong contributions.

Coach Herb Hendrix was named Coach of The Year. The team will travel to Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Indiana on May 20-25 to compete in the national tournament.

ABAC Golf Team

No matter what time of year it is, warm weather and blue skies are never far away in Tifton. Those weather conditions bode well for the ABAC golf team which has become a force to be reckoned with in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA).

The Stallions compete against Georgia teams as well as squads from surrounding states. ABAC always plays a fall tournament schedule as well as a very tough spring lineup of matches.

The Stallions never lack for a practice site since ABAC owns and operates the nine-hole Forest Lakes Golf Club. Tifton Ophthalmologist Larry Moorman and his wife, Debra, donated the $1 million course to the ABAC Foundation in January, 2002.

ABAC uses the Forest Lakes course for practice and plays home tournaments at Ironwood Golf & Country Club Community.

Terry English transferred to ABAC from Gainesville College in the Fall of 2010 and walked on and made the golf team.  His major is Turf Grass and Golf Course Management with a GPC of over 3.0.  He played in every tournament and gradually improved in each one.  He is All-Region and low medalist with 72, 72, 68 scores for three rounds at the Region 17 Tournament held at Jekyll Island April 22-24.  He will be attending the National Tournament in Scottsboro, Alabama May 15-20 to participate and hoping to capture All-American honors.
