Introduction to Wellness, Fitness, and Lifestyle Management

 

 

 

Terminology Review:

 

1.  Wellness - Optimal health and vitality, encompassing physical, emotional, intellectual,

     spiritual, interpersonal, social and environmental well being.

 

2.  Infectious disease - A disease that is communicable from one person to another, caused by

     invading microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses.

 

3.  Chronic disease - A disease that develops and continues over a long period of time; usually

     caused by a variety of factors, including lifestyle factors.

 

4.  Physical fitness – A set of physical attributes that allow the body to respond or adapt to the

     demands and stress of physical effort.

 

5.  Target behavior – An isolated behavior selected as the object for a behavior change.

 

6.  Self – efficacy – The belief in one’s ability to take action and perform a specific behavior.

 

7.  Locus of control – The figurative “place” a person designates as the source of responsibility for

     the events in his or her life.
