Baseball vs St John's River 1_28_2012 Game 2

ABAC Baseball News

January 28, 2012 vs St. John's River, Game #2

In game two Gandee reached base to start the game on an infield single.  After moving into scoring position on a stolen base with no outs the Stallions looked to be primed to score first.  Will Hinson was able to get Gandee to third with a deep fly ball to center but he would get no further and be stranded at third.  Ethan Conway took the mound trying to match the pitching performance in game one.  The first inning was a breeze, although he aloud a hit he looked sharp on the mound.  In the second Hayden Kudela tried to get the offense going again with a single to left, but to no avail as the next two batters were retired.  The bottom of the second did not go as smoothly as the first.  A leadoff triple and a walk put runners on the corners.  The right hander picked the runner off of first with a perfectly executed third to first move and the defense sacrifice a run for the sure out.  With no runners on and one out Conway induced a pop out to right for the second out.  The next three batters would load the bases with a walk and two singles.  With an opportunity to blow the game open for the Vikings the batter could only manage a weak fly out to right field to end the inning.  Both pitchers cruised through the third inning and the Stallion offense remained stalled in the fourth.  In the bottom of the fourth a lead off double put the Vikings in position to score again.  A fly ball out would move the runner to third and allow him to come home to score on a sacrifice fly to center field for the 2-0 lead.  Justin Hicks would take over on the mound in the fifth and work around two free passes to leave the Viking runners stranded.  In the sixth St. John’s would threaten to break the game open again as they loaded the bases with only one out.  Hicks would again maneuver around the trouble getting a strikeout and an easy groundout to shortstop.  Down to their last inning ABAC was desperate for offense and with two outs Hayden Kudela attempted to set the table with his single to left.  For the second time in the game Kudela’s hit would go to waste as the relief pitcher was able to get a strikeout to end the game.
