ABAC Baseball NewsWritten By: Assistant Baseball Coach, Jeff Kilgore Scrimmages: Sept. 16, 2011 vs Thomas University After an opening weekend that saw the offense explode for 31 runs and a pitching staff that looked dominant allowing only 3 earned runs through 14 innings in a double header sweep, the Stallions welcomed Thomas University to town on Friday night. The Stallions looked to take strides forward and improve on their defense, base running and control on the mound while maintaining all the positive aspects from the first two games. They did just that winning both games over the four year university. In game one with ABAC trailing 4-1 the Stallions busted through for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth and held on to claim game one 8-4. The offense stayed consistent and pounded out eleven hits, while the pitchers limited the TU hitters to only 8 hits and showed much better control allowing only three walks. In game two the offense tallied a run in the bottom of the second only to be matched in the top of the third as an unearned run crossed the plate for the Nighthawks. However, in the bottom half ABAC would regain the lead for good as they pushed two more runs across and added four more in the bottom half of the fourth. An insurance run was added late as the Stallions prevailed 8-1 to push their record to 4-0. The offense remained solid and showed that it could get clutch hits as several players delivered two out RBI hits. Offensively for the day the Stallions pounded out twenty-four hits, eight of which were for extra bases, and tallied 16 runs. On the mound the pitching staff showed vast improvement with their control cutting their walk total in half (6), striking out five and only allowing four earned runs. Josh Pape 3 IP, 2 K’s, 0 ER
