Coach Jeff Barfield

Jeff Barfield 2Jeff Barfield comes to ABAC from the Westfield School in Perry, Georgia where he taught AP Biology, Honors Biology, and Anatomy & Physiology as well as coached football and baseball. He was the defensive line coach for the varsity squad and junior varsity defensive coordinator. Barfield was the varsity baseball pitching coach and head junior varsity baseball coach.

As a player, Barfield spent two years pitching in the Detroit Tiger organization making it to the advanced A classification Lakeland Flying Tigers. He spent time as a starter and a reliever while with the Tigers.

Prior to playing professionally, Barfield spent two seasons playing for Kevin O’Sullivan and the University of Florida Gators.  As a senior in 2010, he tied for second on the Gators with 25 appearances, was 4-0 with a 3.38 earned run average, and collected a pair of saves. Barfield held opponents to a .221 clip, notched 24 strikeouts and issued just two walks over 37.1 innings. He worked two innings against UCLA in the NCAA College World Series, giving up one run and four hits.

As a junior in 2009, appeared in 16 games in his first season as a Gator, with seven starts, and was 2-1 with a 4.50 ERA and one save. Registered 40 strikeouts in 46 innings and permitted 15 walks. He limited foes to a .258 batting average. Barfield started five of his eight SEC appearances and was 0-1 with a 4.94 ERA. He had 26 K and 9 walks against league opponents.

His career NCAA postseason ERA is 1.23 in 7 and 1/3 innings of work. Barfield finished with an overall record of 6-1 with 3 saves at the University of Florida.

As a sophomore, Barfield played at Lake City Community College for head coach Tom Clark in 2008. He earned second-team All-Mid-Florida Conference and was NJCAA Pitcher of the Week that April. The Timberwolves finished 32-22 overall and were ranked eighth in the final poll of the regular season. Barfield ranked fourth in the Florida Community College Activities Association/National Junior College Athletic Association (FCCAA/NJCAA) Region VIII with 102 strikeouts and was 10th with a 2.68 ERA. In 21 appearances spanning 80.2 innings, the right-hander was 5-3 and issued 30 walks.

As a freshman, Barfield threw 15 innings in an injury plagued season for Rick Robinson at Young Harris College in 2007. That 2007 Young Harris team went 46-22 and went to the Junior College World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado.

Academically, the 2006 graduate of The Westfield School in Perry, Georgia received his Associates of Arts in Biology at Lake City Community College in 2008. In 2010, He received his Bachelors of Science in Biology with a minor in Nutritional Sciences. While playing professionally, Barfield received his Masters of Science in Exercise Science and Health Promotion with a concentration on Wellness and Fitness from California University of Pennsylvania. He is also a NASM-Certified Personal Trainer. Barfield is in the process of getting his NSCA-CSCS. 

Jeff Barfield’s responsibility at ABAC will be the pitchers as well as strength and conditioning of all players.
