 Placement Testing
The COMPASS test is the placement test for the University System of Georgia. It is designed to test a student's knowledge in three key areas of academics: math, reading and English. Its adaptive process allows the computer program to test key concepts at several levels to indicate a student's preparedness for college-level material. Based upon the results, a student is placed in either college-level courses or Learning Support courses designed to provide the necessary skills and information for future success.

May I use a Calculator? If so, which ones?

WARNING: You are responsible for knowing if your calculator is permitted. If you use a prohibited calculator, or you use a calculator on any test other than the Mathematics Test, you will be dismissed and your answer document will not be scored. If scores are reported and ACT determines that you used a prohibited calculator or used one inappropriately on that test, those scores may be cancelled.

You may use your calculator only while you are working on the Mathematics Test. At all other times, it must be turned off and put away. If you finish the Mathematics Test before time is called, you must turn your calculator off and wait quietly. If your calculator has games or other functions, you may not use those functions—you may use only the mathematics functions of your calculator.

    Permitted Calculators:
You may use any four-function, scientific, or graphing calculator, unless it has features described in the Prohibited Calculators list. For models on the Calculators Permitted with Modification list, you will be required to modify some of the calculator's features.

      Warning: Transferring Scores

If the COMPASS has been taken previously, then the scores need to either be indicated on the college transcripts from the transferring institution or be faxed to the Office of Student Success. Should the scores indicate, according to our requirements, that a student requires Learning Support courses, the student may retake the exam with ABAC and use those scores instead. Students should verify that the testing institution provides both a Pre-Algebra and Algebra score if math testing is required.
      To Fax scores:
      Attn: Catherine Cronin
      Office of Student Success
      Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
