For information on Baldwin Library hours and other introductory information and policies (circulation and computer use policies, fines) see the handout “Welcome to Baldwin Library” and/or check the library web site.

HELP!

Library Card activation?  Fill out and send us this form.  If your card is not live within two working days, call the front desk. (1-229-391-4990)

GALILEO password?  You thought you had it and it doesn’t work anymore?  GALILEO passwords change every semester.  To get the most recent one, go to GIL and choose the “Get GALILEO password” option at the right bottom corner of the screen. If your card is activated and you have no library obligations (outstanding fines or overdue books), the system will automatically tell you the current password.

Want a specific item from our collection?  Print out this form, fill it out and fax it to 1-229-391-4991.  The item will be sent to you at the Moultrie Center by the most expedient method, but remember it is never wise to wait until the last minute to start an assignment.

Reference help?  Ask a librarian is an e-mail service that you can use to get answers to many of your academic life’s more perplexing problems – in the realm of library research questions, anyway.

Charges/ Blocks on your account you don’t understand? Contact Ms. Patel at 1-229-391-4994 during office hours, or send her an e-mail.

Librarians visit the Moultrie Center on a regular basis to teach classes or keep office hours.  To find out when someone will be coming next, send Ask a librarian a note or ask at the Center office.

Don’t forget your local Public Library! Your PINES card (available from most Georgia public libraries) will allow you to request and check out materials from public libraries all over Georgia.

What we’ve got
(and you can use)

GIL – Our catalog. What the Baldwin Library has in its collection.  This database includes e-books – books that we do not own physical copies of, but have access to the contents over the internet.  GIL also includes the names of the journals and magazines we carry subscriptions for – but not the text of the articles within those publications. We will send you books from the circulating collection if you ask and/or photocopy relevant bits of reference books for you to use in your research.

GILExpress – if it’s not at Baldwin, you can look in the “GIL Universal Catalog” (see the top of the GIL search screen) and check colleges and universities all over Georgia.  You can request an item be sent to you (this option is called GILExpress Request at the top of GIL Universal Catalog screens). Have your items shipped to ABAC, notify us by faxing the Materials Request form to us or through Ask a Librarian that you have a book (or books) coming and we will get them to Moultrie.  Expect this service to take about 5 days – you can track the progress on your GIL account (access this from the main GIL page). You must have an activated account and no library obligations (overdue books or fines) in order to use this service.

GALILEO gives you access to over 130 different databases full of material not available to you any other way.  Trust us, you won’t find this stuff on Google.  If the Quick Search option is making you crazy, try choosing a database closely related to your subject by choosing the relevant tab at the top of the GALILEO page and choosing one of the Try These First suggestions at the top of the page.

ILL – Interlibrary Loan is for journal articles you can’t find full-text in the GAILEO databases or books not held in Georgia. This is the form.  Expect to wait at least 3-7 days for an ILL – at least 10-14 days if the items come from out-of-state.
