COURSE DESCRIPTION
ITEC 2245 emphasizes the use of
database management systems software packages for program-related
database applications. Topics include: planning and designing a
database; database creation; data entry; database access, manipulation,
and updating; sort, index, and query functions; database program related
applications; and database management applications. Laboratory work
includes theoretical and technical application.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
· understand the process of using database management
software.
· understand how a database management system can be
utilized in the business world.
· demonstrate knowledge of the basic and advanced
capabilities of MS Access.
· effectively run queries, create reports, and advance
skills such as switchboards using Visual Basic programming.
Prerequisite:
3 hours. Prerequisite: CISM 2201 with
minimum grade of “C”.
**This course is required in Area F of the University System
of Georgia Core Curriculum. You should not expect it to transfer to a
School of Business in a senior college or university within the system
unless your grade is a “C” or better.
Teaching Methods:
1. Participation: Communication is important for On-line
classes: Students should plan to login to WebCT
two-three times a week. Communication is encouraged in WebCT on the
discussion board. Students
should login to WebCT and reply to weekly “attendance e-mails” (instructor will
explain).
2. Assignments: Tutorials will be assigned to reinforce material in the
text. Projects on SAM testing website will require an access code
included in the text book bundle from the bookstore.
3. Review:
Training will be given to help ensure students stay up with
assigned material. How to videos are included with your textbook for
better understanding. This is new feature provided by the
publisher.
4.
Exams: Three exams will be
given using SAM testing software. The exams will be online. (training
for each Tutorial/Chapter)
5. Internet: All material will be distributed on the
Internet. Instructional material and student assignments
will be posted on WebCT.
Text/Materials:
Text: New Book! Adamski/Finnegan,New Perspectives on Microsoft Access 2010 - Comprehensive , Course
Technology, 2011.
SAM 2010 Access code bundled with the text from the ABAC
Book Store is the best price.
Software: Microsoft Windows 7,
Microsoft Access 2010, and Internet Explorer 8 will be used.
Instructor will provide information on how to use these packages.
Information on how student may
purchase MS Office 2010 on the web at
http://www.abac.edu/students.
Students may use the ABAC Library computers to complete the required
work. It is the student's responsibility to maintain &
troubleshoot personal computers.

offenses and may be punished by failure on exam, paper or project;
failure in course; and or expulsion from the college. For more

COLLEGE POLICY ON CLASS ATTENDANCE
Class
attendance: No on-line student
shall go more than two weeks without communication between student and
instructor. Weekly communication is required using WebCT/Vista
e-mail . A reduction in letter grade will
apply.
