Literature and Language Faculty

Welcome from the Chair

Exciting things are happening within the English program at ABAC's Department of Literature and Language! We are proud to introduce our school’s four-year Rural Studies degree, a concentration in Writing and Communication, which joins the recently-launched Rural Studies Arts and Culture concentration.
While this is an exciting time of growth, you will soon discover that our faculty members are still deeply committed to undergraduate teaching and continue to provide a personal touch in and out of the classroom. Our goal is simple: to help our students define their personal academic journeys, while giving them the personal attention that is critical to their academic success.
Please explore our web site to learn more about the opportunities offered by our English program. Here are a few highlights of our department's accomplishments:

  • Our First-Year Writing program recently received honorable mention in the Diana Hacker Outstanding Program in First-Year Writing by the national publication College Composition and Communication. This award speaks to our department's top priority of putting our students first.
  • Reading Underground, the Literature Reading Group at ABAC, meets every Thursday night in the Conger hall faculty suites and has grown to over twenty students reading and discussing anything from 18th century British poetry to political theory.
  • We also produce Pegasus, a high-quality literary magazine each year, featuring ABAC and Georgia writers and artists, providing them with a forum to publish their works. The magazine continues to host visiting writers in a format that is open to the ABAC and Tifton communities. Recent visiting writers have included Kent Haruf, Patrick Phillips, and Janice Daugharty, who in Fall 2010 joined ABAC's faculty as Writer-in-Residence.
  • Whether you are taking freshman and sophomore classes or are enrolled in one of our four-year degree programs, you will find that our faculty members are some of this college's brightest and caring teachers. Additionally, our department continues to lead the way in helping our students find an academic community while at ABAC.

Wishing you all the best on your academic journey,

Billy Reynolds
