2005 High Five Award Nominees

Week Ending November 18, 2005:  Keith Perry

Keith Perry, Instructor, Division of Humanities.  "Kudos to Keith for coordinating ABAC's ceremony honoring our veterans.  Our lives are so busy but Keith made time in his schedule to 'mastermind' this type ceremony.  When I replied to his email requesting veterans information, saying how wonderful it was for him to do this, his reply was simply, 'It's the least I can do.'  Those few words spoke volumes of his appreciation to those who protect and serve our country."

Week Ending November 4, 2005:  Elizabeth Wilcox

Elizabeth Wilcox, Sr. Secretary, Student Life and Housing.  "Miss Elizabeth has a heart of gold and the dedication to ABAC as big as the sky.  She loves the students and will go the extra mile for each and every one of them.  One example of many:  she sold ducks for the hurricane victims.  Of 700 sold, she, single-handedly, sold 400!  She drives from Fitzgerald every day on her salary just to help all that she can.  I'm sure she could find a position closer to home!  She loves me dearly and the feeling is likewise.  She deserves a thousand High Fives."

Week Ending October 21, 2005:  Andrew Smith (Weekly Winner)

Andrew Smith, Public Safety Officer, ABAC Public Safety.  "I saw reported in the Gazette this week, 'Officer Andrew Smith with the ABAC Police helped me jump start my battery late one night last week on his way home from work.  Not many guys his age would have stopped, or even called 9-1-1.  Thank YOU!'  What a great way to be an ambassador for ABAC in the community.  He really went above and beyond the call of duty."

Week Ending October 7, 2005:  Dina Willis (Weekly Winner)

Dina Willis, Sr. Secretary for the Baldwin Library.  "Dina has managed to juggle all her usual work, train the new head librarian and spend every second of any free time she has helping anyone who needs her.  She was heavily involved with the recent Fiesta del Pueblo: she now spends time connecting people who can help each other during this stressful time in the Hispanic community.  She is a fabulous ambassador for ABAC; always cheerful, well informed and outgoing."

Week Ending September 19, 2005:  Nancy Anthony (Weekly Winner, Monthly Winner for September 05)

Nancy Anthony, Sr. Secretary, CAMP/HEP.  "Nancy is deserving of this award because of her efforts over the past weeks.  In addition to fulfilling her clerical duties, she was responsible for purchasing and packaging all the supplies required by students for both programs (books and materials).  These activities, many times, kept her busy beyond the regular workday.  Nancy always has a smile regardless of the number of students that come to complain to her about their classes or the number of visits to the bookstore or Wal-mart  that she makes in a day.  She truly exemplifies the commitment we should all have to our students."

Week Ending September 2, 2005:  Sherin Nixon (Weekly Winner)

Sherin Nixon, Financial Aid Advisor.  “Sherin worked extremely long hours, assisting individuals with their financial aid over the weekend on her own time.  She is always helpful and has a friendly smile.  Everyone is deserving but Sherin is, and has been, one-of-a-kind and very dedicated to ABAC.”

Week Ending August 26, 2005:  Patsy Hembree (Weekly Winner, Monthly Winner for August 05)

Patsy Hembree, Coordinator OITS Admin. Services. Patsy spent yet another weekend at work when we needed her, to provide an easy way for our students to look up their new Vista ID's.  By doing this, she saved time for the faculty and also helped to distinguish the two separate ID's.

Week Ending August 19, 2005:  Dr. Herbert Shippey (Weekly Winner)

Dr. Herbert Shippey, Professor, Humanities Division.   Dr. Shippey  always has time and kind words of encouragement for both his students and colleagues, even at his busiest times.  He is there every Friday, even when the exterminator comes, to finish the Pegasus and related work.  He stays up nights before grades are due to allow students maximum time to make up work.  He certainly deserves a High Five award.

Week Ending May 6, 2005:  Brenda Youmans (Weekly Winner, Monthly Winner for May)

Brenda Youmans, Store Clerk I, ABAC Bookstore.  "Book Buy Back is always a demanding period for the Bookstore staff.  Brenda Youmans has pitched in and learned the buy back process and has taken on this task in addition to her duties as head cashier.  She not only has learned the process but has worked to train new employees on this procedure.  This has happened because Brenda sees a need and takes the initiative to do whatever she can to fill the gap.  This has especially been beneficial to our operation during the end of spring buy back because we have had two key part-time employees to retire and two others that were trained during the December buy back who became unavailable for this important part of our operation."

Week Ending April 29, 2005:  Doug Waid and the Forestry Wildlife Club (Weekly Winners)

Doug Waid, Associate Professor, Agriculture and Forest Resources Division and the Forestry Wildlife Club.  "I want to personally thank Doug Waid and the Forestry Wildlife club for all they do for this campus. This group, for the week of April 18-23, spent many hours setting up and breaking down tents for the George Scott Day/Jazz Festival and for the Relay for Life. Doug and his young people have always gone way beyond the call of duty to help many organizations with their activities throughout the year. Thanks for all you do for ABAC and the community."

Week Ending April 22, 2005:  Brenda Doss (Weekly Winner)

Brenda Doss, Administrative Secretary for the Office of Academic Affairs.  Brenda's nomination read: "Her efficient and meticulous preparations for Honors Day allowed the ceremony to go very smoothly despite the need to rearrange the seating only an hour or so before the event."  For this and all her skill, hard work and dedication, Brenda deserves a High Five Award.

Week Ending April 8, 2005:  Brenda Bailey, Beverly Clark, Donna King (Weekly Winners)

Brenda Bailey, Beverly Clark and Donna King, Accounting Clerks, Business Office.  "I have included all three individuals because I consider them a team and each one contributes equally to the overall function of the "Fiscal Affairs Team."  This team is supportive of each other and must know something about the others' job duties in case of absences or whenever a crisis arrives.  These three do so much to keep the Business Office functioning properly and even though they are "out front" they are often overlooked for the great job they each do.  The entire campus depends on the Business Office whether it's to get reimbursed for petty cash or travel expenditures or to get budget account balances.  ABAC would be lost without these three ladies and I think they are very deserving of the High Five Award.

Week Ending April 1, 2005:  Vickie Wilson (Weekly Winner for 4/1/05, Monthly Winner for March)

Vickie Wilson, Sr. Secretary, Division of Social Science.  "Vickie has been so helpful in taking care of all of the financial details of our "Improving Teacher Quality" grant.  She has even delivered supplies and materials to faculty members here at ABAC and in the Tift County School System.  This certainly shows her willingness to go above and beyond!"

Week Ending March 11, 2005:  Philip Hightower (Weekly Winner)

Philip Hightower, Lab Technician, Science/Math Division.  "Mr. Hightower is a huge asset to our division.  He is always willing to step in wherever and whenever he is needed.  However, Philip has served as President of the Staff Forum for the past 2 years.  He has helped with the successful fundraising by hosting our "Tom Turkey" Auction (for ABAC's Staff Forum.)  A lot of his time was devoted to this, which he did in addition to all of his other duties.  Thank you, Philip, for a job well done and for such a worthy cause."

Week Ending February 18, 2005:  Cindy Jones, (Weekly Winner for 2/18/05, Monthly Winner for February)

Cindy Jones, Media Services Coordinator.  "Cindy coordinated all of the technology for our “Showcasing Teacher Quality” event on February 15.  She went above and beyond by staying after hours to videotape the entire program, then packed up all the equipment we left at the end of the evening."

Week Ending February 11, 2005:  Jane Thompson and Bam Pirkle (Weekly Winners)

Jane Thompson, Personnel Assistant for Human Resources, and Bam Pirkle, Administrative Secretary for College Services and Human Resources.

"These two employees are always going above and beyond the call of duty and they do so with pleasure.  They work very hard assisting me as their director and every other person on this campus as the need arises.  They are very instrumental in making sure that both retirees and active employees receive pertinent information so that they can make informed decisions.  They are actively involved in completing projects such as Open Enrollment, benefits fairs, informational sessions, major changes and new processes and procedures and all other duties as assigned.  Bam and Jane are extraordinary employees; they work hard and they do it with a smile.  It is indeed a pleasure to nominate them for the High Five Award!"

Week Ending January 28, 2005:  Mrs. Barbara Snyder (Weekly Winner for 1/28/05, Monthly Winner for January)

Barbara Snyder, Secretary for the ABAC Bookstore.  "Barbara Snyder has performed extremely well under a great deal of pressure that usually goes unnoticed.  During book rush Barbara has people pulling her strings from all angles and she does an outstanding job of juggling all of her assignments while not falling behind in any of her assigned duties.  She keeps the bookstore's bills paid on time, which keeps us in good standing with our vendors.  She is one of those employees who's efforts may go unnoticed by the masses yet the masses reap the results of her endeavors on a daily basis.  Barbara Snyder deserves a "High Five" for her unselfish attitude and the continued excellent execution of assigned duties in the ABAC Bookstore."
