BASIC FUNCTION

 

 The Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services provides leadership for non-academic student life and all activities related to enrollment, retention, and the improvement of graduation rates.  Areas of responsibility include admissions, registrar, learning support, financial aid, counseling, career planning and placement, student testing, student housing, and student activities.

 

 

NATURE & SCOPE

 

The Vice President for Student and Enrollment Services reports to the President of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  The President occasionally assigns special projects, but most work is self-assigned and reviewed only an annual basis.  The incumbent has autonomy over management of the Student and Enrollment Services area. The incumbent directly and indirectly supervises approximately 35 employees. 

 

This position requires superior leadership skills.  The incumbent is tasked with supervising a large staff comprising several different areas of student life.  The incumbent must be able to mold all of these different areas and guide them toward a common goal for the advancement of the College.  The Vice President must be able to identify individual goals for each division that coincide with the larger College goal.  He/She must be able to change focus as needed and shift attention from one division of the department to another without sacrificing quality of work and performance.

 

Along with leadership skills, the Vice President must posses an excellent ability in interpersonal communications.  This aids in motivation of a large staff.  It is also important for the incumbent’s participation in campus-wide and departmental committees.  It is important for the incumbent to be able to articulate concerns from the department of Student and Enrollment Services. 

 

Furthermore, the incumbent must exhibit a true passion for students.   The focus of the Department of Student and Enrollment Services is on the non-academic life of students.  In order for students to develop fully in their time at ABAC, it is important for them to have experiences outside of the classroom that prove personally enriching.  The Vice President must always keep this in mind and make it his/her focus, using creativity, innovation, resourcefulness, and adaptability to help stimulate these experiences.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Ø       Provides leadership and collaborates with other administrators, faculty, and students to create and maintain a cultural and social environment which encourages the well-rounded development and success of individual students

 

Ø       Provides leadership and guidance in developing and administering processes and procedures which promote active student involvement in extracurricular activities and development of student leadership

 

Ø       Provides leadership in developing and maintaining standards governing student conduct and devising a system for the fair and effective administration of student discipline

 

Ø       Provides leadership and works collaboratively with other administrators to provide adequate housing for students and to devise systems for the safety, governance, and supervision of students living on campus

 

Ø       Provides leadership and supervision in the development of policies, procedures, and programs to provide financial aid  to students

 

Ø       Provides leadership and supervision in the development and administration of procedures governing testing, counseling, career development, job placement, and other student development activities

 

Ø       Provides leadership and supervision in the areas of recruiting, application processing, orientation, and proper maintenance of student records

 

Ø       Supervises the preparation and execution of annual budgets for student and enrollment services, student activities, housing, academic assistance, and other budgets

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Vice President for student and enrollment services manages several budgets.  Among theses are Financial Aid (approximately $275,000 total), Housing ($105,000), Learning Support ($90,000), Academic Assistance Center ($70,000), Admissions ($375,000), Registrar ($265,000), Student Development ($165,000), Student Services ($160,000), and Student Activities ($250,000).  This totals to approximately $1.755 million.

 

 

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

This position requires an advanced degree and five to seven years of work in the field. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Banner is also required.
