BASIC FUNCTION |

The IT
Systems Support Professional manages, maintains, and supports server
hardware, operating systems, enterprise allocations, and operating systems
projects for the area of Administrative Computing. The main objective of this position is to
keep the unix mainframes and Linux mail server secure, currently patched,
backed up on recovery media, productively operative, and free from system
errors and hackers. This position is
also responsible for implementing a disaster recovery plan, and the incumbent
is involved in capacity planning and performance management. |
|
NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The IT Systems Support
Professional reports to the Coordinator of Administrative Technology. While this position supervises various
projects, no employees report to the incumbent. While the person holding this position
generally knows what result is expected of his/her work, he/she has the
latitude to determine how best to accomplish this objective. Because the mainframe
operating systems are very different, the IT Systems Support Professional
must remain versatile and flexible.
These complicated systems compel the incumbent to be proficient in
many different areas. Unfortunately, formal
training in these areas is often hard to locate, so the incumbent must rely
on contacts in the profession for advice.
This requires good interpersonal communication skills and an ability
to maintain relationships. However,
the incumbent does participate in seminars and classes when available. In addition to maintaining
the servers, the IT Systems Professional is also tasked with the duty of
conducting the operations of the Blackboard Student Identification Card
System. This requires verifying that
all readers, hardware, and equipment are online, active, and functional at
all locations where the card is accepted.
In addition, the incumbent must train end users on the functionality,
report generation, hardware installation, and operation of the system. Additionally, the IT Systems Professional
must solve card holder problems. |
