BASIC FUNCTION |

|
The Systems
Administrator – Manager provides leadership, strategic planning,
implementation, security, and management to the activities of the
Administrative Technology Department.
This involves working in the areas of budget, personnel, harware, and
development of software. Significant
knowledge of applications and databases is utilized routinely. |

NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Systems Administrator –
Manager reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and
Services. The incumbent supervises
approximately three to five employees. This position is a time-challenged
job, with the incumbent responsible for functional support for over 100 end
users and programming for seven departments.
The Systems Administrator – Manager must be flexible, as new projects
often arise which have pressing deadlines.
This also requires a high level of stress tolerance and the ability to
manage a team to accomplish several different goals at once. The Systems Administrator –
Manager must have an exhaustive understanding of server skills, programming
skills, HTML skills, and software skills.
The incumbent is responsible for support of the Banner student
information system and the one-card system.
In addition, the employee must use his/her knowledge to offer support
in other areas and to recommend different strategies for departments. The position also requires the incumbent to
train and update staff members. Inherent to this position
is the task of remaining abreast of current issues and new technologies in
the industry. It is critical that the
incumbent remain current, as the Systems Administrator – Manager often has the
opportunity and duty to recommend new systems and programs to fit needs on
campus. |

Provides
general supervision for the staff members of the Administrative Technology
Department Ø
Provides
technical and programming assistance and resolves significant problems
impacting overall project success or in the development of major systems Ø
Provides data
and coordinates interaction between the staff of the Administrative
Technology Department and that of other departments Ø
Evaluates
budget impacts of proposed computer projects Ø
Interviews,
trains, and evaluates staff Ø
Participates in
meetings and on committees to identify needs for new technologies Ø
Serves as
backup for System Administrator and Database Analysis |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES |
|
The incumbent is
responsible for monitoring the budget relating to the daily operation of the
department. This budget includes the
salaries of employees, the maintenance of software and hardware, and special projects,
and it totals approximately $510,000.
However, large budget expenditures are referred to the supervisor. |

SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires an
advanced degree and five to seven years of work experience in the field. In addition, the incumbent must possess
significant computer, programming, and technical skills. |
