BASIC FUNCTION |
|
|
|
This
position is in essence a customer service position. The Store Clerk is responsible for meeting
the needs of students, faculty, staff, and other customers of the
bookstore. In order to accomplish
this, the Store Clerk is expected to operate a computer point of sale
terminal in the selling process, interact with customers in an appropriate
manner, order, receive, and stock inventory, and maintain the store appearance. |

NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Bookstore Manager is
the immediate supervisor of the Store Clerk and assigns tasks to the
incumbent. The Store Clerk does not
have the responsibility of overseeing any other employees. The primary responsibility
of the Store Clerk is customer service.
The incumbent serves as the main cashier for the bookstore, and as
such is often the first contact customers have with bookstore employees. The Store Clerk must have excellent
interpersonal communication skills in order to be successful. He/She often must handle customer
complaints. This position requires one
to be able to interact in an assertive manner with people in adverse
situations while maintaining a high degree of tactfulness and respect for the
other party. In addition, the Store
Clerk must have a knowledge of all technology used in the bookstore, especially
the point of sale system. The Store
Clerk must also be able to produce effective promotional displays and
materials for the bookstore. |

ACCOUNTABILITIES |

Ø
Acts as a
cashier and sales person, both for book sales and book buy-backs Ø
Assists
customers in the bookstore and on the telephone Ø
Maintains an
adequate inventory in the assigned area Ø
Assists
with managing perpetual inventory through routine inventory counts as well as
year-end inventory. Ø
Assists in
receiving and stocking merchandise Ø
Ability to lift
40 pounds (textbooks or paper products) Ø
Helps maintain
the general appearance of the bookstore Ø
Periodic trips
to and correspondence with ABAC on the Square in |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES |
|
While the Store Clerk does
not make any budget decisions, he/she is responsible for large sums of money
during the day, particularly during high-volume periods. |
|
SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires four
years of high school or a GED equivalent and limited experience, generally
less than a year. |
