BASIC FUNCTION |

|
The
incumbent is responsible for the preparation of budgets, budget ammendments,
and budget status reports. In
addition, this position has the task of maintaining accurate accounting and
budgetary records, including some assistance within a supervisory capacity to
others within the office on accounting related problems. |
|
NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Senior Accounting
Assistant reports to the Director of Business Services. The incumbent serves as the supervisor for
a small number of student workers. This position requires a
broad range of understanding of general accounting principles. The incumbent works with the general
journal on a regular basis. In
addition, the Senior Accounting Assistant must have practice in budget
maintenance and payrolls. Some
experience in accounting software would be of great value. The Senior Accounting
Assistant must be able to work independently.
Most of the tasks completed by this position require him/her to
identify needs and act accordingly.
Thus, self-motivation and responsibility are essential characteristics
of this position. The incumbent must also
have acute knowledge of the policies and procedures required by the Board of
Regents of the University System of Georgia.
These policies greatly affect accounting decisions, and the Senior
Accounting Assistant is often required to explain these policies to different
departments and budget units. Also, the annual budget and quarterly budget amendments
must follow these policies.
Additionally, the incumbent attends Board of Regents meetings dealing
with budget related items. |

Prepares the
annual budget and quarterly budget amendments for the Board of Regents Budget
Office Ø
Copies and
interfaces payroll files from the HR PS system to the PS GL system after the
payroll office has completed processing each payroll Ø
Reconciles the
general bank statement Ø
Prepares
journal entries for any budget administrator as needed Ø
Prepares and
sends monthly reports to budget administrators Ø
Downloads and
interfaces DOAS telephone bill and prepares voucher for payment of phone bill Ø
Substitutes as
needed for other office positions Ø
Interviews,
hires, trains, and supervises student workers |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES |
|
The incumbent is
responsible for preparing the annual budget, quarterly budget amendments, and
budget status reports. In addition,
this position performs required maintenance on various budgets throughout the
year. However, the incumbent is not
personally responsible for the administration of any budget. |

SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires four
years of high school or a GED equivalent and three to five years of
experience in the field. |
