NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Recruiter/Enrollment
Counselor reports to the Director; however, most work is self-assigned. While
the incumbent understands the general result that is expected of the
position, he/she is free to determine how best to achieve this result. The incumbent is not responsible for
supervising any other employees. A great deal of time for
this position is allocated toward interacting with others, be it high school
students, parents, guidance counselors, or alumni. Thus, it is imperative that the Recruiter/Enrollment
Counselor
be a superior communicator
(excellent written and communication skills and polished public speaking
skills). The Recruiter/Enrollment Counselor
must understand the admission requirements and be able to sell the benefits
of an education from ABAC, and this requires perceptiveness on the part of
the incumbent. He/She
must identify what the interests of the contact are and demonstrate how ABAC
corresponds to those interests. These
communication skills also help the incumbent to forge relationships with high
school guidance counselors, parents, and others who are key
to helping the student make their college admission decision. Furthermore, the Recruiter/Enrollment
Counselor must be insightful and discerning.
In order for ABAC to continue to attract high-quality students, the Recruiter/Enrollment
Counselor must observe trends and attitudes of high school students, report
on them, and plan strategies accordingly.
The Recruiter/Enrollment Counselor must analyze various applicant reports to
guide recruitment decisions and efforts and must maintain records of all
contacts from recruitment events and produce required reports and semester
and annual recruitment summaries. This
is critical to long-term student recruitment.
In addition, innovation is
required by this position. Materials
must present the mission of ABAC in a new and attractive manner. The Recruiter/Enrollment Counselor must
have an appreciation and understanding for marketing and sales from an
educational perspective. The
recruitment strategy must reflect this innovation. Prioritization is a key
characteristic for this position, along with the ability to use independent
judgment in making decisions. Often,
scheduling conflicts occur, and the incumbent must choose which event to
attend. He/She
must correctly identify which event will be the most productive use of time
and act accordingly. This must also be
done without damaging relationships with high schools. Strong familiarity with
computers and software, especially the BANNER Student Information

additional responsibilities and duties as assigned. |
