BASIC FUNCTION |
|
|
|
The
position of Public Safety Sergeant exists to provide a friendly, safe, and
healthy environment for all students, employees, and visitors. The incumbent motitors activity on campus to
make sure that the law is obeyed and safety is ensured. |
|
NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Public Safety Sergeant
reports to the Uniformed Patrol Supervisor.
In addition, the incumbent supervises approximately three to eight
patrol officers, depending on shifts. This position requires the
incumbent to function as a team member to carry out the mission of the
agency. It takes the whole department
working together in order to provide adequate service for the ABAC campus. The Public Safety Sergeant falls into this
team, having work assigned to him/her, but also designating assignments and
supervising other officers. While
shift changes often cause problems, teamwork and communication help to
minimize these. The Public Safety Sergeant
has frequent contact with the public, so he/she must practice excellent
communication skills. In addition, the
incumbent must have an assertive nature in order to deal with conflicts in an
efficient and incident-free manner. |

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |

years of high school or GED equivalent and three to five years of work
experience. P.O.S.T. and Field
Training Officer certifications are required, as is knowledge of |
