BASIC FUNCTION |
|
The
incumbent helps the Senior Mail Clerk complete necessary work. The Postal Clerk also prepares outgoing mail. |
|
NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Postal Clerk reports to
the Senior Mail Clerk. This position
does not have the responsibility of supervising other workers. Primary responsibilities of
the Postal Clerk include keeping the student postal boxes up to date. This is sometimes a tedious chore, as the
post office does not receive information regarding students who have
withdrawn or been dismissed from the College.
Also, the incumbent assists new students in securing a postal box. Other postal related
functions include receiving, sorting, and delivering mail. In addition, the
Postal Clerk routinely runs the meter machine. These are often team tasks, with several
postal employees jointly working to complete them. The incumbent also prepares a variety of
reports on a regular basis. In order
to complete each of these tasks in the proper manner, the Postal Clerk must
remain current in United States Postal Service regulations. |

ACCOUNTABILITIES |

Ø
Receives mail
from main post office and places it in the faculty, staff, and student mailboxes. Ø
Receives and
delivers various Federal Express, UPS,
and DHL packages Ø
Supplies new
students with a post office box each semester and monitors and maintains
these boxes Ø
Forwards mail
to forwarding address Ø
Runs meter
machine and sorts mail Ø
Creates a
daily, monthly, and semester long report for the Tifton Post Office and the College |

RESPONSIBILITIES |

The Postal Clerk reports on
the accounts related to postal box rental each semester. However, the incumbent has no
responsibility for budget allocation. |

SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires a
high school diploma or a GED equivalent and a minor amount of experience in
the field (usually less that one year) |
