NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The HEP Coordinator reports to the Director of HEP and CAMP, but most work is
self-assigned. This job has the
latitude to consider alternatives within substantially diversified,
established procedures and standards.
Because of changing priorities or differing situations encountered in
the work environment, the incumbent has the latitude to consider which among
many procedures should be followed in what sequence to achieve the required
job results. In addition, the incumbent supervises the work of five to ten
employees in HEP, including program instructors, recruiters, and tutors. The HEP caters to a
diverse, non-traditional student population.
There are many factors that have prevented these students from
obtaining education, and it is the duty of the HEP Coordinator to help the
students overcome these obstacles. The
incumbent must adequately understand the cultures and backgrounds from which
the students come. The problems they
face may range from lack of childcare to transportation issues to language
difficulties. The nature of the
program requires the incumbent to be flexible and an adept problem
solver. Dedication, patience, and
tolerance are all essential qualities of the HEP Coordinator. In addition, the HEP
Coordinator must be effective at leading a team of employees in HEP. These employees all share the goal of
helping students obtain a GED. The HEP
Coordinator must make sure that programs are organized and implemented
properly and that the HEP employees have the tools necessary for success. |
