BASIC FUNCTION |
|
|
|
The
incumbent is responsible for providing technical support for forest resource
programs and for assisting in the training of students for public and private
sector jobs in forest resources. |
|
NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Forest Technician
reports to the Chair of the Division of Agriculture and Forest
Resources. No employees report
directly to this position, although the incumbent manages several projects on
an individual basis. The main goal of the Forest
Technician is to facilitate the educational experience of students at the
college. This requires setting up,
working with, and dismantling laboratory exercises. Transportation of students and maintenance
of equipment are also important functions of this position. In order to ensure a positive educational
experience and competitiveness in the professional world for students, the
Forest Technician must display a passion for these students. The incumbent must maintain
an extensive knowledge of the forestry industry. This position requires understanding of
topics ranging from Geographic Positioning Systems and surveying to plant
identifications to ethics. This
knowledge is critical to student learning and success. |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES |

The Forest Technician is
responsible for ordering and purchasing various departmental supplies. However, the incumbent is not responsible
for any budget allocation decisions. |

SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires an
associate degree in forest resources and three to five years of work
experience in the field. |
