NATURE

The Chair of the Division
of Humanities is supervised by the Vice President and Dean of Academic Affairs.
The Division Chair manages
60 to 65 employees, including full- and part-time faculty of the division,
employees of the ABAC Arts Connection, and student workers. The Division Chair must
show an ability to lead an extremely diverse group of employees toward a
common aim. The nature of the
humanities leads to this diversity, as the groups that make up this area span
the spectrum of interests but are all joined by the common theme of relation
to the arts. Often, this variety of
interests leads to disputes, and the Division Chair must work to reach
compromises in order to achieve the objectives of the Division and the
College. In addition, this position
requires a close relationship with the ABAC Arts Connection. While the ABAC Arts Connection is
primarily funded by private sources, it provides numerous opportunities for
students and faculty of the Division of Humanities. Also, the ABAC Arts connection facilitates
interaction with various community groups and individuals otherwise not
associated with the college. It is
essential that the Division Chair use this publicity and the contacts in
generates for the betterment of the division and College. This position necessitates
a knowledge of ABAC and University System of Georgia policy, as this policy
must be relied upon in operations. The
incumbent must also follow accreditation standards and employment law as
decisions are made. However, the
incumbent has the latitude within the division to establish the procedures
that will allow the division to reach its goals. The Division Chair must
