BASIC FUNCTION |
|

|
The
Division Chair is tasked with providing management and leadership for the
faculty and staff of the Division.
This postion evaluates the faculty, and he/she implements the
Division’s unit plan in accordance with the College’s strategic plan and
mission. The incumbent manages the
budget for the Division and is responsible for the operation and upkeep of
the Division’s facilities. In
addition, the incumbent has the responsibility of teaching courses and
responding to student needs and requests. |

NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Chair in the Division
of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation reports to the Vice President
and Dean of Academic Affairs. The
Division chair supervises 25-30 employees, including faculty, staff, and
student workers. The Division Chair plays a
pivotal role in the success of the division, and the incumbent must be able
to mold together a team of diverse individuals in order to achieve the goals
of the division while adhering to the overarching objectives of the
College. Not only must the incumbent
lead his/her own divisional team, he/she must also act as a liaison to campus-wide
efforts. The Division Chair must
select and implement the strategies that will be used to advance the division
and the College. The Division Chair also
works closely with the Athletics Director, as the men’s and women’s athletic
teams use the division’s facilities on a frequent basis. Outside groups also often use the
facilities, and an aptitude for scheduling is essential. This position requires a
knowledge and understanding of ABAC and University System of Georgia policies
and procedures. Furthermore, it is
imperative that the incumbent keeps current in the latest instructional
technologies, accreditation standards, and physical education equipment, as
all play a large role in daily operations. The incumbent must also
balance his/her managerial duties with the overall goal of educating
students. Teaching classes, advising
students, and resolving student issues are all principal duties of the
incumbent. |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES The incumbent is
responsible for the divisional budget of approximately $590,000. The incumbent must set priorities, evaluate
budget statements, make decisions as to the allocation of funds, and make
recommendations for annual revisions. |

requires and advanced degree and a minimum of seven to ten years work
experience. |
