NATURE

The Division Chair in the
Division of Agriculture and Forest Resources reports to the Vice President
and Dean of Academic Affairs. However,
he/she has the latitude to consider courses of action within the constraints
of well defined College practices and policies. The incumbent knows what result is expected
for the division but may determine with some autonomy how that result is
achieved. This process may include
developing new procedures if necessary.
The incumbent supervises approximately 40 to 45 full- and part-time
faculty and staff. The Division Chair is
responsible for a great deal of administrative decisions in the Division of
Agriculture and Forest Resources. The
position requires an extensive knowledge of ABAC and University System of
Georgia policies, which are applied to issues within the division. A large portion of time is devoted to the
budget process and allocation of resources, as the Chair attempts to maximize
Division well being. The person in
this position must divide these resources between not only traditional
classroom education but also the ABAC farm, golf course, and various
laboratories. The Division Chair has the
responsibility of managing faculty and staff in a team setting in order to
facilitate the welfare of the Division.
It is essential that the incumbent takes diverse members and ideas and
shapes them toward a common goal for the good of the Division. The incumbent spends
considerable time assisting with fund raising. The Division Chair must possess a talent
for working with alumni groups and others who may provide an outside source

relate the goals of the individual donors to the goals of the Division and
College. Teaching and instruction
are also large parts of this position, as the Division Chair is charged with motivating
students to excel. In addition, the Chair is responsible for personnel
decisions and program and course changes.
