The Director of Student Success Programs is responsible for providing leadership for the area of Student Success Programs in accordance with ABAC and University System of Georgia guidelines.

NATURE & SCOPE

The Director of Student Success Programs reports to the Vice President of Student and Enrollment Services, who reviews work on a yearly basis.  However, most work is self-assigned based on Board of Regents and College policies.  While general results are expected, the incumbent may establish the plan, determine priorities, and prescribe the processes by which the objectives will be achieved.  This position has the latitude to determine that new College procedures are needed in order to fit changing situations.  Approximately 40 employees serve under the incumbent in this position.

A primary responsibility of this position is ensuring that students with learning support requirements are in compliance with state and College regulations.  This includes examining student records and schedules and holding meetings with students as needed.  Students often do not realize what processes need to take place in order to return to good academic standing, and it is the job of the incumbent to explain this.  The incumbent also matches these students with advisors and administers tests.  In addition, the incumbent is responsible for the Freshman Year Experience initiatives and other retention efforts.

Another integral duty of this position is coordinating the academic advising program at ABAC.  This program is critical to the success and timely matriculation of ABAC students.  The Director of Student Success Programs initially assigns academic advisors to incoming students.  Additionally, the incumbent updates the Academic Advisors’ Handbook on a regular basis and ensures that the ABAC program is in compliance with University System of Georgia standards.

The supervision of the Academic Advisement Center is yet another duty of the Director of Student Support.  This center provides tutoring services for an average of 1100 students each semester.  The center serves as another educational resource for the college and provides services to struggling students.
