POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position Title:

Director of Arts Connection

FLSA Status:  Exempt

Reports to:

Division Chair

Department:

Division of Humanities

Date Prepared:

June 2005

BASIC FUNCTION

The Director of the ABAC Arts Connection is charged with the supervision of the daily operation of a mature multi-county community and campus arts program.  This position also oversees the College’s choral music program.  Duties associated with this position include staff management, budget development and oversight, planning and implementation of a full range of arts programming, community relations, development work, and the direction and administration of the College choirs.

NATURE & SCOPE

The Director of the Arts Connection reports to the Chair of the Division of Humanities.  The incumbent manages approximately five staff members, student workers, and contracted employees.

The ABAC Arts Connection is a unique partnership of public and private entities which combine resources to achieve a common goal.  The incumbent must consistently seek out, identify, and secure funding for programs.  This also requires the Director of the ABAC Arts Connection to be proficient at grant writing.  Necessarily, the incumbent must be apt at selling the benefits of the program to potential partners and devising partnerships to the benefit of both participants.  Because funding is received from many different sources, the Director of the ABAC Arts Connection must effectively meet the objectives of many different organizations without compromising the quality of programming.  Creativity and innovation are indispensable skills for the holder of this position.

In addition, the incumbent must be flexible and show an ability to multitask.  The nature of the ABAC Arts Connection forces new projects to be planned before previous projects are implemented.  It is imperative that the incumbent be able to switch objectives on a routine basis and still be able to effectively complete projects.

The Director of the ABAC Arts Connection must be a superior event coordinator, as he/she plays host to many art festivals and art series throughout the year.  This requires obtaining funding, securing venues, inviting artists, promoting the event on campus and in the surrounding communities, and supervising logistics.

Furthermore, the incumbent also serves as the Director of Choral Music at ABAC.  This requires that the incumbent recruit and teach the Concert Choir and the Jazz Choir, order necessary equipment and materials, make concert arrangements, and prepare and administer the choir budgets.
