BASIC FUNCTION |
|
The Director of
Annual Giving and Scholarships is responsible for planning and implementing a
comprehensive Annual Giving program designed to support the programs and
activities of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and the operations of the
Office of College Advancement. The
Director is equally responsible for the
management and growth of funds held by the ABAC Foundation on behalf
of private scholarships designated for students of |

NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Director of
Annual Giving and Scholarships reports to the Chief Development Officer. The
Director has the latitude to make independent decisions within well defined
practices and policies and is encouraged to implement new procedures in order
to accomplish end results. While these
results are typically specified by superiors, the incumbent decides how best
to achieve the goals of the Office of College Advancement. Responsible for managing various projects
throughout the year, the Director may have at least one subordinate. Following the goals and objectives of
the College’s strategic plan, the Director is
responsible for designing, scheduling, implementing and evaluating programs
which build a long-term base of support for the College. A variety of approaches may be employed to
increase constituent giving including, but not limited to, direct mail,
special events, and creative use of web-based technology. Targeting of constituents and tracking of
results are coordinated with the Director of Alumni Relations, the Director
of Support Operations and the Chief Development Officer. The Director coordinates a quarterly
newsletter in support of the Chief Development Officer’s planned giving
activities. The Director maintains the
direct mail data base for that newsletter, may provide the cover story when
appropriate, and oversees the quarterly mailing. The Director of
Annual Giving and Scholarships administers
approximately 600 private scholarships whose funds are held by ABAC
Foundation. The Director has the
latitude to seek new scholarship donors and to direct those donors to areas
of current need. The Director works
with donors to establish new scholarship criteria or to update existing scholarship
criteria as the needs of students and the College change. The Director allocates the Foundation‘s
annual scholarship budget among the various scholarships. As the Foundation’s representative on the
College Scholarship and Awards Committee, the Director insures that the
Foundation’s investment is protected and the donor criteria followed. The Director may promote the Foundation’s
scholarships among students, parents and educators as necessary. The Director is responsible for an annual
scholarship fund raising event sponsored by the ABAC Foundation. To accomplish the goals of the Office
of Advancement, the Director must communicate effectively and participate in
activities of the Office of College Advancement as a team player. Professional interactions may include, but
are not limited to, donors, students, parents, high school counselors,
financial aid staff, and other Unit Directors in the Office of College
Advancement. |

PRINCIPAL
ACCOUNTABILITIES |

Ø
Designs,
schedules and implements strategic annual giving programs to increase both
the number and size of donations less than $10,000, with special attention to
unrestricted gifts. Activities may include
personal solicitations, direct mail, special events and web based approaches Ø
Develops goals and
identifies target audiences for a variety of strategic annual giving programs;
such as, the traditional fall mailing, a Christmas follow-up mailing, a young
alumni program, the faculty/staff campaign, promotion of on-line giving, and
the planned giving newsletter Ø
Designs and
prepares annual giving campaign materials, including oversight of their printing
and distribution Ø
Performs analyses,
prepares reports and makes
recommendations regarding the
effectiveness of annual giving programs Ø
Collaborates
with the other Unit Directors to ensure coordination of fundraising efforts,
acknowledgement of gifts, accuracy of the constituent data base and
appropriate donor recognition projects, i.e. President’s Club Dinner Ø
Establishes new
scholarships, including development and documentation of criteria, resulting
from direct fund raising efforts and from unsolicited, self-designated donors
Ø
Maintains
database of general criteria for approximately 600 privately funded
scholarships Ø
Advises the Office of Financial Aid and the College
Scholarship Awards Committee on the tracking of on-line scholarship
applications, current and past scholarship recipients, and donor acknowledgements
when necessary Ø
Allocates the
Foundation‘s annual scholarship budget among the various scholarships with
funds held by the Foundation Ø
Represents
donor and ABAC Foundation interests,
including adherence to criteria and allocated funds, at meetings of the
College Scholarship and Awards Committee Ø
Promotes
scholarship opportunities to donors, students, parents and high school
counselors as appropriate Ø
Uses
appropriate technology and data systems to manage and monitor giving
including the maintancence of the Foundation’s website and the online
donation process and updates. Ø
Responsible for
one scholarship fund raising event annually, for example, Dollars for ABAC
Scholars or its equivalent |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES The Director of
Annual Giving and Scholarships analyzes and allocates available funds
for scholarship awards, approximately $350,000 annually. The Director
of Annual Giving and Scholarships is also be responsible for setting
and maintaining budgets for each of the fund/friend raising activities, such
as the Annual Fund, Special Events and planned giving program. |

|
SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires a bachelor’s degree and a
minimum of three to five years of experience in fund raising, preferably in
higher education. Strong computer and
analytical skills are required along with excellent oral, written,
interpersonal and organizational skills.
Demonstrated success working with people of various age groups is
desirable. Expertise in the complete Microsoft program offerings and
BlackBaud Raisers Edge preferred.
Creativity is a must in developing annual core messages and strategies
to attract increased participation in annual giving programs. |
