NATURE & SCOPE

The Coordinator of Instructional Technology reports to the Chief Information Officer.  This position is the supervisor of one employee.

The focal responsibility of this position is the training of faculty and staff in computer applications and equipment.  This involves training sessions and classes.  In addition to formal training sessions, much one-on-one training occurs in the form of information technology support.  The Coordinator of Instructional Technology often consults with faculty, staff, and students concerning computer software and equipment problems.  Both aspects of training require a great deal of patience, as those being helped are often frustrated.  Interpersonal communication skills are essential in these instances in order to effectively accomplish the task.  The Coordinator of Instructional Technology must be a problem solver.

In addition to the duties related to training, the Coordinator of Instructional Technology is tasked with coordinating distance learning events.  This requires an understanding of networked computer equipment, satellite-based instructional delivery systems, and interactive audio/video delivery systems.  Usually, at least three years of experience in distance learning is preferred.
