BASIC FUNCTION |
|
|
|
The
Coordinator of Instruction and Guidance is tasked with the duty of
identifying, recruiting, selecting, and serving potential program
participants. This often involves
significant work with low income and first generation students, and much work
is done on the high school level.
Guidance services are a major component of this position. |
|
NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Coordinator of
Instruction and Guidance reports to the Director of Upward Bound. The incumbent supervises 25 to 30 part-time
employees, including teachers and guidance personnel. Recruitment of potential
program participants is a significant requirement of the incumbent. High school visits, information sessions
with students, and meetings with parents are all involved. The Coordinator must possess a skill for
selling the advantages of the program to these groups. In addition, the incumbent must maintain a
strong relationship with high school guidance counselors and administrators. Furthermore, the
Coordinator is charged with supervising guidance activities. This involves a great deal of working with
at-risk and disadvantaged students, and it is often critical to their success
in post-secondary education. The incumbent works closely
with the director of Upward Bound.
Assistance is required in the budgeting process, in hiring teachers
for courses, in the evaluations of course instruction and curriculum, and in
various other activities and projects that arise. |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES |

The incumbent is
responsible for submitting requests for payment and purchases. The Coordinator of Instruction and Guidance
meets with the Director to discuss monthly balances and future expenditures,
as well as assisting with budget planning on a yearly basis. |
|
SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires an
advanced degree and three to five years of work experience in the field. |
