BASIC FUNCTION |
|
|
|
The Cashier has the duty of monitoring and managing the receipting of funds. In addition, the incumbent assists with student accounts and assists with the daily operations of the office. The incumbent also assists with student registration by processing tuition payments and verifying financial aid. |

NATURE & SCOPE
|
|
The Cashier is the subordinate of the Director of Business Services. This position does not include the supervision of any employees.
The Cashier works closely with other employees in the department, as well as with employees in Enrollment Services and Financial Aid and other areas at the institution who provide revenue for receipting. An open line of communication with these individuals and departments is critical to this position. If an account change occurs in one department, all departments must adjust accordingly. Thus, communication skills are vital to this position.
In addition, the Cashier has a good deal of interaction with students regarding their accounts. The incumbent must be able to identify the discrepancy and explain it clearly to the student. If a problem arises, the Cashier must address it and look for a solution or pass it on to a higher level. The incumbent must remain flexible, exercise patience with discontented individuals, and act as a problem solver.
This position requires an understanding of policies and regulations regarding cash transactions, student enrollment and payment procedures. The incumbent is responsible for daily balancing of the cash drawer to the receipting system and preparing bank deposits. The incumbent is responsible for receipting deposits/payments to the Banner system as encountered.
This position is task-oriented. The incumbent has a set of duties to perform, and does so on a regular basis. The nature of this position requires a responsible and self-motivated individual. However, the Cashier must be able to adapt his/her actions to fit specific situations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ø Receipt deposits/payments to Banner system as encountered
Ø Balance daily to Banner session tools and cash drawer funds assigned
Ø Performs office duties
Ø Receives fee payments
Ø Reviews student accounts with customer service attitude
Ø Verify Departmental deposits and communicates errors
Ø Follows established policies and procedures

The Cashier has no responsibility regarding budgetary issues. |

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
This position requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent and typically up to two years of experience in the field, although it is acceptable to have less. |
