BASIC FUNCTION

The Assistant Director of Development assists the Director of Development and the ABAC Foundation Board of Trustees in all aspects of fund raising on behalf of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  In addition, this position assists the Director of Development and the Foundation President with the administration of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the ABAC Foundation Board of Trustees.

 

 

NATURE & SCOPE

 

The Assistant Director of Development reports to the Director of Development, although he/she also receives tasks from the President of the ABAC Foundation.  The incumbent supervises approximately five other employees, including the Development Resources Coordinator. 

 

This position requires that the incumbent function in a team setting.  With a large amount and variety of tasks and projects to be completed, the Assistant Director of Development serves to coordinate and supervise other employees assigned to the project.  Such projects include organizing the President’s Club Dinner, the Dollars for ABAC Scholars Program, and the Goizueta Foundation Scholars Fund Committee.  The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for selecting team members, identifying goals, setting guidelines, priorities, and deadlines, and monitoring team progress.

 

The position of Assistant Director of Development requires flexibility and versatility on the part of the incumbent.  As projects and donors change, the duties of the incumbent fluctuate.  The incumbent must be able to adapt to these changes and advance the goals of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations and the ABAC Foundation.

 

Perhaps the most critical skill for the Assistant Director of Development is the ability to communicate effectively to a diverse group of people.  The incumbent faces the challenge of selling the College’s mission to potential donors.  In order to convince these donors, who often come from very different backgrounds, to invest their private money in the College, the incumbent must use communicative and persuasive skills very proficiently.  The incumbent must relate the mission of ABAC to the personal mission of each potential donor with candor and integrity.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Ø       Assists with the administration of the Major Donor Program

 

Ø       Assists with the administration of the ABAC Foundation

 

Ø       Oversees the Private Foundation Program and executes the goals of the program

 

Ø       Assists with the operations of the Office of Development and Alumni Relations

 

Ø       Directs the Dollars for ABAC Scholars Program

 

Ø       Supervises the Planned Giving Program

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Assistant Director of Development is responsible for preparing an annual unrestricted budget proposal, generally in excess of $250,000, for the approval of the ABAC Foundation Board of Trustees.  In addition, the incumbent prepares and administers budgets for the President’s Club Dinner ($13,000) and the Dollars for ABAC Scholars Program ($75,000).  The incumbent sets and monitors gift income goals and establishes and implements tracking procedures for income and expenses associated with each individual fund raising effort.

 

 

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

This position typically requires beyond a four-year college degree but not an advanced degree, as well as seven to ten years of experience in the field.
