BASIC FUNCTION |
|
The
incumbent is tasked with the duties of planning, coordinating, and executing
various arts events annually. These
events include the Arts in Schools Program, the Arts and Entertainment
Series, the Arts In Black Festival, La Fiesta Del Pueblo, and the Love Affair
Fine Arts Festival. The incumbent also
oversees quarterly museum tours and the Grassroots Arts Program. |

NATURE
& SCOPE |
|
The Assistant Director of
the Arts Connection is supervised by the Director of the Arts
Connection. While no employees report
directly to this position, the incumbent is solely responsible for managing various
projects. It is the task of the
Assistant Director of the Arts Connection to transfer ideas and concepts into
reality. He/She is directly
responsible for most of the legwork that brings events to the stage,
programming to schools, and information to stakeholders. This position requires a high degree of
organization to coordinate effectively and efficiently the daily
responsibilities that make art and education events happen. The incumbent is responsible for much of
the behind-the-scenes work that makes public activities appear easy. The Assistant Director of
the Arts Connection is responsible for managing several projects. A main focus of the incumbent is the Arts
in Schools Program. This program
brings events to local schools and serves approximately 17,000 students
annually. Another responsibility of
the incumbent is the submission of grant proposals for the Grassroots Arts
Program. The incumbent distributes
these funds to local arts projects that correspond with the goals of the Arts
Connection, and he/she helps with the promotion and coordination of these
events. Several arts festivals are
coordinated by the incumbent. The tasks
associated with these festivals include stage management, logistics, and
administrative support of the board of directors for each festival. Additionally, the incumbent organizes and
hosts the Fall Affair Fundraiser, and annual fundraiser supporting the Arts
Connection. Other events also require
the attention and supervision of the Assistant Director throughout the year,
and an aptitude for multitasking is necessary as several events often take
place at the same time. |

ACCOUNTABILITIES |

Ø
Plans,
coordinates, and hosts up to 120 school performances (theatre, storytelling,
opera, dance) through the Arts in School Program Ø
Prepares and submits
grant applications, re-certifications, reports, and re-granting documentation
for the Grassroots Arts Program. Ø
Assists in the
planning and coordination of several local arts festivals on an annual basis Ø
Plans,
coordinates, and hosts annual fundraisers for support of the arts Ø
Assists in the
coordination of multiple arts series Ø
Plans and
coordinates the Summer Enrichment Program for at-risk youths Ø
Coordinates
museum trips for patrons of the Arts Connection, students, and alumni Ø
Assists the
Director of the Arts Connection in other duties as needed |

BUDGETARY
RESPONSIBILITIES |

The incumbent implements
the budgets of the Arts in Schools Program, the Grassroots Arts Program, the
Summer Enrichment Program, and the Fall Affair Fundraiser. These budgets total to approximately
$96,000. |

SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED |
|
Typically, this position
requires beyond four years of college but less than an advanced degree. This position also requires three to five
years of work experience. |
