BASIC FUNCTION

 

The Administrative Coordinator works closely with Student Support Services and the Minority Advising Program.  He/She assists and advises program participants in securing fianancial aid and admisssion to the Institution.  This position also establishes and maintains contact with minority students in order to ensure the quality of their educational experience.  Furthermore, the Administrative Coordinator provides assistance to the director and leadership to the staff concerning institutional, state, and federal policies and procedures that directly affect the area and program participants.

 

 

NATURE & SCOPE

 

The Administrative Coordinator reports to the Director of MAP/TRIO Programs.  While the position does not require the direct supervision of other employees, the incumbent is in charge of coordinating the efforts of others.

 

The Administrative Coordinator must be able to multi-task on a daily basis.  Several projects may be developing at one time, and it is the job of the incumbent to coordinate efforts.  This requires the ability to set priorities, accomplish tasks, and move to the next objective.

 

The implementation of program objectives requires knowledge in a broad area of topics.  The incumbent must be proficient in the grant writing process.  The Administrative Coordinator must also be able to identify tools and techniques which will enhance program services, maintain a database, and submit monthly reports showing progression toward program objectives.

 

The incumbent devotes a sizable portion of time to helping program participants gain admission to and financial aid for four-year institutions.  This requires coordinating campus visits, cultivating relationships with senior college recruiters, and conducting workshops related to the transfer process.  A primary objective of this position is to ensure a smooth transition for ABAC students to four-year institutions.

 

The Administrative Coordinator deals heavily with minority students on campus.  It is his/her goal to make certain that minority students have a positive experience at the College, both in academic and extracurricular settings.  This may require personal letters, phone calls, emails, and continual monitoring of academic progress.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

Ø       Assists in the development and implementation of programs

 

Ø       Advises potential participants in securing admission and financial aid at four-year institutions

 

Ø       Establishes and maintains contact with minority students

 

Ø       Assists with the coordination of activities in each program of the unit

 

Ø       Supervises the Peer Advising Program

 

Ø       Assists with the preparation of annual reports and compliance issues

 

Ø       Serves as an academic advisor for undeclared majors

 

Ø       Serves as an advisor for the Minority Academic Social Development Association

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

BUDGETARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent directly assists the Director in setting and maintaining the budgets in Student Support Services, the Minority Advising Program, and Learning Disability Services.  These budgets total to approximately $370,000.

 

 

 

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

This position requires an advanced degree and one to three years of work experience in the field.
