Faculty & Staff Development Opportunities
How do you know what you are doing in your classroom is working?
We will begin with the learning outcomes for your course and identify
assessment methods that work for you and your students.
From there we will discuss how to use assessment results for improving
instruction.
What factors influence student motivation and desire to engage in the process of
truly learning? Obviously, there are some influences beyond the
professor’s control, but research in educational psychology suggests that one
thing professors can do to increase student engagement is to create a learning
environment that is in some ways linked to, and supportive of, the current
student culture. During this
workshop, we will review the literature regarding the culture of the millennial
student and share the findings of some of the presenter’s initial research
regarding millennial student culture.
Throughout the presentation, faculty will be asked to reflect on how they
might engage students in the courses they teach, by connecting with the current
student culture.
Digitized video clips of student interviews will be utilized in order to
facilitate discussion regarding practical steps we can take to increase student
engagement through connecting with millennial student culture.
Larry Kelley will be providing a one-day workshop on Assessment for Teaching Enhancement.
