FrontPage Beginners’ Level

 

Overview Info

1)      HomePage is saved as Index.htm

2)      Create folders to save “like” documents (e.g., Tests, Syllabus, Course Name, etc.)

3)      Modify Index.htm to add/create hyperlinks for new documents

 

Changing Default Settings for FrontPage (first time use only)

1)      Tools (menu), Options (pull-down)

a)      General (tab)

i)        Open last Web automatically when FrontPage starts (selected)

ii)       Check if Office is the default editor for pages created in Office (not selected)

iii)     Check if FrontPage is the default editor for pages (not selected)

iv)     Show status bar (selected)

b)      Configure Editors (tab)

i)        Open web pages in the Office application that created them (not selected)

c)      Reports View (tab)

i)        Assume connection speed of T1

d)      OK

 

Create New Document(s)

1)      File (menu), New (pull-down), Page (sidemenu), Normal Page (icon), OK (button) or Ctrl+N or New Page (first icon)

2)      Type text

3)      Adjust font and alignment (bold, italics, left, center) using the Formatting Toolbar

4)      Double-space = Enter (key); Single-space = Shift+Enter (keys)

 

Modify Existing Document(s)

1)      File (menu), Open (pull-down), selection location and filename, Open (button) or Ctrl+O or Open (second icon)

2)      Modify/Add/Delete text as desired.

3)      Adjust font and alignment (bold, italics, left, center) using the Formatting Toolbar

5)      Double-space = Enter (key); Single-space = Shift+Enter (keys)

 

Set Single Line Spacing

1)      Select all existing text – Ctrl+A

2)      Format [menu], Paragraph [pull-down], Indents and Spacing [tab], Spacing [section]

a)      Before – 0 (zero)

b)      After – 0 (zero)

 

Save HTML Document

1)      Ctrl+S or File (menu), Save (pull-down) or Save (third icon)

2)      Select "Save As Type" as WebPages (*.htm, *.html, …)

3)      Provide an appropriate location and filename ensuring the drive letter is for the web server

4)      Change (button) to modify the Page Title that appears on the browser title bar

5)      Type the Page Title Info

6)      OK (button)

7)      Save (button)

 

Insert Hyperlink

1)      Type text for link

2)      Select text

3)      Hyperlink (icon)  or Ctrl+K or Insert (menu), Hyperlink (pull-down)

a)      External Website: Type in the web site location, OK (button) or Website (globe – first button)

b)      Local web page:  Browse (yellow folder -- second button)  and select Web server drive location and filename, OK (button)

c)      E-Mail: E-mail (yellow envelope – third button)  and type your full e-mail address (e.g., username@abac.edu)

d)      To set the web page/link to open in a new window

i)         Pencil icon in Optional section

ii)       Select New Window

iii)     OK

 

Delete Existing Hyperlink

1)      Select hyperlink

2)      Hyperlink (icon)  or Ctrl+K or Insert (menu), Hyperlink (pull-down)

a)      Delete/Remove existing link location (URL)

b)      OK (button)

 

Insert/Modify Graphic Image, Sound Clip, or Movie Clip

1)      Insert graphics, sound, movies, etc. (*Note:  Sound clips available in C:\Windows\Media)

a)      Insert (menu), Picture (pull-down)

i)        Clip Art (side menu), select object, Insert (top icon)

ii)       Or From File (side menu), select location and filename, OK (button)

2)      Change alignment (left, center, right) on graphic image

a)      Select the image                                   

b)      Alignment icons on toolbar or Left = Ctrl+L; Center = Ctrl+E; Right = Ctrl+R

3)      Change size of graphic image

a)      Select the image

b)      Drag one of the corner squares to enlarge/shrink image proportionally

4)      Modify properties on graphic image

a)      Right mouse on the image

b)      Picture Properties (pop-up menu)

c)      General (tab)

d)      Select Type: JPEG

e)      Enter Text in Alternative Representations (i.e., general description for the graphic image for ADA requirements)

f)        OK (button)
