The Office of Federal
Programs (OFP) operates as part of the Academic Affairs unit. OFP’s
mission is twofold. First, OFP provides administration and management of
the following federal programs: HEP/CAMP/SSS/Upward Bound. In addition,
OFP offers support to the Office of Sponsored Programs.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS
The following programs report
to this office:
CAMP
The College Assistance
Migrant Program (CAMP) assists students who are migratory or seasonal farm
workers (or children of such workers) enrolled in their first year of
undergraduate studies at an Institution of Higher Education (IHE). The funding supports completion of
the first year of studies.
Competitive five–year grants for CAMP projects are made to IHEs or to
nonprofit agencies that cooperate with such institutions.
CAMP grants are funded through the U.S. Department of Education,
Migrant Education Office
HEP
The High School
Equivalency Program (HEP) helps migratory and seasonal farm workers (or
children of such workers) who are 16 years of age or older and not currently
enrolled in school to obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma and,
subsequently, to gain employment or begin
postsecondary education or training. HEP grants are funded through the U.S. Department of Education on
five year cycles.
TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
(SSS)
The TRIO SSS Program assists
low-income and first-generation college students and individuals with
disabilities to graduate from college. Services include assistance with securing financial aid; personal,
academic and career counseling; academic instruction; assistance with
transition to four-year programs from two-year institutions; assistance with
applying to graduate and professional schools; and activities specially
designed for students with limited English proficiency. TRIO SSS is funded through the U.S. Department of Education, Office
of Federal TRIO Programs on five year cycles.
TRIO UPWARD BOUND (UB)
The TRIO UB Program prepares
high school students and veterans for success in postsecondary education. The types of programs available include Math and Science, Regular,
and Veterans curriculum. ABAC has two Regular programs:
The Classic and Tiftarea UB Programs. The Regular program services include a summer and academic year
instructional component; instruction in subject matter, including
mathematics through pre-calculus, laboratory science, and foreign language;
mentoring programs; counseling and exposure to cultural events.
TRIO UB programs are funded through the U.S. Department of Education,
Office of Federal TRIO Programs on five year cycles.
