Community Events Fill Up ABAC Calendar This Fall

A number of scheduled events open to the public will take place on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College during the fall semester.  The fall lineup offers something for everyone and includes musical performances, information sessions, and annual events.  All events listed are open to the public.  Certain events may require a ticket or fee.

Events during the semester include the 16th Annual Ag Classic at ABAC’s Forest Lakes Golf Club on Sept. 26 and the Hispanic Heritage Celebration on Sept. 29 on the campus of ABAC.  Co-eds will compete in the annual Ms. ABAC contest on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium.  A set of Nursing Information Sessions will be available on Sept. 20 at 4 p.m. and Nov. 8 at 8 a.m. in the Health Sciences building. High school students interested in attending ABAC can visit the campus on Nov. 12 for Stallion Day.

Fall events from the “ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series” will feature the University of Georgia Symphony Orchestra on Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. at the Tift County High School Performing Arts Center, guitarist Shaun Hopper on Oct. 13 in Howard Auditorium on the campus of ABAC, and Derek Evans as Teddy Roosevelt in “The Man in the Arena” on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. in Howard Auditorium. All these performances require a ticket for admittance.

Other musical performances this fall include the First Tuesday Concert Series, which begins its 15th season.  Performances will include “A Night of Jazz” featuring ABAC instructor Thomas Heflin and friends at 7 p.m. on Oct. 4; “A Night of Woodwinds” featuring Sara Eastwood on clarinet and Scotty Phillips on alto saxophone at 7 p.m. on Nov. 1; and the annual Christmas Concert at 5 p.m. on Nov. 29.  All First Tuesday performances are open to the public at no charge in the ABAC Chapel of All Faiths.

Other musical events include the Fall Choral Concert at 7 p.m. on Nov. 8 in Howard Auditorium, the Fall Band Concert in Howard Auditorium on Nov. 14-15 at 7 p.m., and the Fall Jazz Concert on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium. There is no charge to attend these concerts.

The Baldwin Players will perform Aristophanes’ “The Birds” at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on Oct. 27-29.  Tickets are $10 at the door and free to ABAC faculty, staff, and students.

During the fall term, the entire campus will be closed on Sept. 5 in observance of Labor Day.  Students and faculty will enjoy the Fall Break on Oct. 17-18. Thanksgiving holidays for the students are set for Nov. 23-25.

Events at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture (GMA) and Historic Village at ABAC include a 40th Anniversary Celebration on Oct. 1, the annual Trick or Treat in the Village on Oct. 29, the Harvest Celebration on Nov. 5, and the Native American Experience on Nov. 19.

For the holiday season, the GMA will offer the Victorian Village by Candlelight on Dec. 4 and the North Pole Express on Dec. 14-16.  Tickets must be purchased in advance and will not be sold on the day of the event.

Final exams at ABAC will take place on Dec. 1-2 and Dec. 5-6.  The fall commencement ceremony will be held in Gressette Gym on Dec. 8 at 10 a.m. For more information, interested persons can visit the ABAC web site at www.abac.edu or call (229) 391-5004.
