Tickets Available for Opera at ABAC on Thursday

January 20, 2015

Tickets are still available for the Peach State Opera Company’s presentation of “The Elixir of Love” on Thursday at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium on the campus of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

ABAC Arts Connection Director Wayne Jones said individual tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students under 18 years of age. Tickets can be purchased online at www.purplepass.com/abac or by phone at (229) 391-4895.  The performance is a part of the annual “ABAC Presents! Performing Arts Series.”

One of the most cherished operas of all time, “The Elixir of Love” combines whimsical wit and charming characters with dazzling arias and breathtaking duets, according to Jones.

“Written in only six weeks by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti, this two-act comic opera was the most often performed opera in Italy between 1838 and 1848, and it has remained a constant in the international opera repertory,” Jones said.  “We are very pleased to bring it to the ABAC stage.”

“The Elixir of Love” involves a fake love potion which leads all of Donizetti’s characters into unexpected situations and romantic entanglements.  With love triangles, con men, and inspiring music, this production highlights the best in theatrical presentation.

Future performances in the ABAC arts series include The California Guitar Trio on Feb. 12 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium and The Ron Westray-Thomas Heflin Quintet on April 16 at 7 p.m. in Howard Auditorium.

“ABAC Presents!” is supported in part by Georgia Council for the Arts through the appropriations of the Georgia General Assembly.  Georgia Council for the Arts also receives support from its partner agency, the National Endowment for the Arts.
