Police Academy at ABAC Announces 279th Session Graduates

Sixteen individuals from the South Georgia area recently received certificates at graduation exercises for the 279th session of the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) Regional Police Academy at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

Academy Director Marty Smith said the overall achievement award for the session went to Teddy J. Merritt, Jr. of the Ben Hill County Sheriff’s Office.  Michael E. Kling, Jr. of the Fitzgerald Police Department finished in first place in academics, and Jesse A. Streat of the Fitzgerald Police Department wound up in second place.  Nicholas B. Alexander of the Cordele Police Department won first place in the firearms competition, and Troy J. Wallrich of the Cordele Police Department was second.

Other graduates included Johnny B. Foreman of the Albany Police Department; Jerry S. Davis of Ashburn, sponsored the GPSTC; Joshua C. Vaughn of Bainbridge Public Safety; Mark R. Varnadore of Baxley, sponsored by the GPSTC; and Clay S. Murphy of the Grady County Sheriff’s Office.

Additional graduates included Joshua M. Parker and Donnie C. Robinson of the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office; Jennifer L. Gosseck of Pinetta, Fla., sponsored by the GPSTC; Sara D. Tapley of Swainsboro, sponsored by the GPSTC; Jared B. Crosby of the Tift County Sheriff’s Office; and Tony A. Cumbus of Valdosta, sponsored by the GPSTC.

The GPSTC Regional Police Academy regularly holds multi-week intensive training sessions designed to acquaint officers with state-of-the-art law enforcement techniques. The Academy operates in cooperation with the School of Human Sciences at ABAC.
