Choral Music Highlights ABAC First Tuesday Concert February 3

January 22, 2015

The First Tuesday Concert Series will feature “A Night of Choral Music” on Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Chapel of All Faiths at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.  This concert is open to the public at no charge.

The First Tuesday series, now in its 14th year, features regional professional artists on the first Tuesdays of five months during the year.  Dr. Susan Roe, Director of Music for the School of Liberal Arts, is the First Tuesday Program Director.

“A Night of Choral Music” will feature The Sine Nomine Singers. Roe said the unusual title for the group means “without name.”  She said the Singers were created to provide choral singing opportunities and challenging choral works for local singers.

“The Sine Nomine Singers increase the awareness and appreciation of sacred and secular choral works through promotion of area talent, innovative programming and collaborative performances with other artists,” Roe said.   “Membership is by invitation only.”

The Singers will perform four different sections during the concert.  Pieces will include “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot” and “Behold the Star” arranged by William L. Dawson; “Jubilate Deo” by Hans Leo Hassler; Jacob J. Narverud’s “A Song of Triumph;” “Agnus Dei” by Javier Busto; “I Have Had Singing” by Ron Jeffers; David Dickau’s “I Carry Your Heart With Me;” “Dawn” by Eric William Barnum; and “The Spheres” by Ola Gjeilo.
