Artisans Community of Tiftarea Event October 2 at the GMA

The newly-organized Artisans Community of Tiftarea (ACT) will hold its first event, “An Evening with the Artists,” on Oct. 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the Georgia Museum of Agriculture at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College. The show will feature music, poetry readings, and writers.

Tickets for this event are $5 for general admission, $4 for ABAC students, and free for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased through Dr. Jeff Newberry, associate professor of English and ABAC’s Poet-in-Residence, by calling (229) 391-4972 or via e-mail at

Dave’s Bread and Coffee House will provide free refreshments during the event. This event is hosted by the Artisans Community of Tiftarea and co-sponsored by ABAC’s Department of Literature and Language and Dave’s Bread and Coffee House.

A number of ABAC students and faculty will be involved in the initial event of the ACT including Professor of English Sandra Giles; David Daughtry, a diversified agriculture major from Ty Ty; Alyssa Riveiro, an English major from Sylvester; Professor of English Mark Richardson; and others. Newberry, advisor to the college’s literary magazine, “Pegasus,” will emcee the event. The evening will also feature local writer/storyteller Janie Hopwood, scientist and musician Albert Culbreath, and local comedian Ed Wiley.
