Georgia Learning Support Program

What is the goal of the Learning Support Program?

The Learning Support (LS) Program is a Board of Regents initiated program of courses and advisement to help build the foundational skills needed for success in college-level courses. Students enrolling in Learning Support courses will have a program of study specifically designed to fulfill their unique learning needs. Learning Support courses build or refresh a student in critical skill areas that apply to almost all of the courses required by a degree program at ABAC. Exiting Learning Support requirements will be a prerequisite for many of the courses that a degree program will require for graduation. In short, Learning Support is a generic term for programs designed to prepare students for collegiate work.

What are Learning Support courses?

Learning Support courses serve students who need preparation in Reading, Mathematics, and/or English. No degree credit may be earned in a Learning Support course, only institutional credit is awarded. Grades earned in a Learning Support course don't count towards a student's grade point average.

How many times can a student take a LS course?

Reading and English: Students are allowed two attempts to complete all course work in Reading and English. Students who do not complete Learning Support requirements at the end of the second and final attempt will be suspended from ABAC for one year (three semesters).

Learning Support Math: Students are allowed three attempts for Math0097 and Math0099 combined. If a student does not pass Math0097 at the end of the second attempt, the student will be suspended for one year. If the student does not pass Math0099 at the end of the third and final attempt, the student will receive a one year (three semesters) learning support suspension.

What about the 30 hour limit?

In every term of attendance, students must first register for all required Learning Support courses before being allowed to register for other courses. A student may not accrue more than 30 semester hours of credit before completing all Learning Support requirements. A student who accrues 30 semester hours of academic credit and has not successfully completed all Learning Support requirements, may enroll only in Learning Support courses.
