Every student who receives an associate degree or certificate from a
University System of Georgia institution is required by the Georgia
legislature to show competency in United States and Georgia history and a
knowledge of the constitutions of the United States and Georgia.
Successful completion of POLS 1101 fulfills the constitution requirements
for both career-technology and college-transfer students. Successful
completion of HIST 2112 fulfills the history competency requirements. A
student who transfers American History and/or Political Science courses
from institutions outside the state must also fulfill the legislative
requirements in Georgia history and/or Constitution by examination.
Certificate students must pass examinations on the Georgia and U.S.
Constitutions and must meet the Georgia and U.S. History competency
requirement through a course or examination.
