Stafford School of Business Students Visit the Port of Savannah

Students from the Stafford School of Business visited the Port of Savannah on Friday, April 7th where they learned about seaport logistics. A presentation was given by John D. Trent, Senior Director of Strategic Operations and Safety, where he discussed many topics regarding the port.   The Port of Savannah is the fourth largest port in the United States, as well as the fastest growing.  The Savannah Port serves 44% of the U.S. population which is equivalent to 138 million people.

A special tour was given to students of the restricted areas of the port where they were able to view the daily operations. Students were most intrigued by the movement of the cargo containers.  Cranes were utilized to stack and unstack containers up to seven high.
