Arts Connection Annual Events


The ABAC Arts Connection is a resource center, a presenter, a coordinator. Audiences, artists, community leaders, tourists and groups from throughout the nation look to the Arts Connection for excellence in arts opportunities, and for guidance in building the arts in their own venues.

 

 

 

  • Five works of art in public places in Tifton are the direct result of Arts Connection community partnerships; they’re always open!
  • Folk Art Wall known as “Our Town Tifton:” 30-foot bas relief hand-sculpted wall with hundreds of whimsical images. Tifton Gardens, Love Avenue at First Street Downtown
  • “Joy:” bronze sculpture of a dancer. Downtown Library, Library Lane between Love and Tift avenues, Downtown
  • Musical Playscape: interactive musical sculpture. Fulwood Park, Tift Avenue between 8th and 12th streets, just north of Downtown
  • Two Landscape Murals: Hand painted scenes of regional flowers, lakes, and scenes West-facing walls, corner of Love Avenue and Second Street, Downtown and corner of Third Street and Commerce Way

Among the Arts Experiment Station’s annual events:

  • Love Affair fine arts festival every late April/early May
    • A celebration of arts and community
    • The largest concentration of simultaneous arts events in front of the biggest crowd during the course of a year in Tifton, Georgia
    • Three full days of fine art, glorious food and fabulous performances
    • Performing arts, fine arts gallery and marketplace, children’s performances and hands-on activities, fine crafts, heritage crafts demonstrations, festival foods, strolling performers
  • Arts in Black Festival each March
    • Music, dance, drums, storytelling, crafts, poetry competition, workshops, health fair -- all to share and celebrate African-American heritage
  • Fiesta del Pueblo
    • An early October weekend celebration of Hispanic American traditions and culture with dance, photography, foods, health fair and more in Downtown Tifton
  • Multi-county professional performance series
    • Major national touring companies and nationally-known artists on stage, ranging from symphony to Broadway to big band
  • Arts in Education
    • Artists in residence and professional performing events provided to schools for students in all grades, responding to national research which clearly shows the significant impact of the arts on math, science and creative thinking processes
  • Exhibitions
    • Visual art exhibits of national, regional and local art in interesting historical sites
  • Technical Assistance
    • The Arts Connection assists groups and communities in organizational development, fiscal management, grants research and writing, programming, marketing and facility development.

One of the College’s guiding principles, “through public service the college shall be a leader in valuing and improving lifelong learning,” is addressed through ABAC’s support of the Arts Connection.
